Do not start an online store in Kenya until you read this. 

I have worked with a lot of people that are starting online stores and they make the same mistakes over and over again.

And I wanted to prevent that so I wrote this article.

Here, you are going to learn the top three mistakes people in your position always make.

These are the things you need to correct before embarking on starting an eCommerce website in Kenya

#1. You need to niche down

Here we go;

The first thing is you need to niche down more.

I know you think targeting women in 25 – 35 is a small enough target market.

Spoiler alert!

It needs to be way more niche down than that.

One of the things I like to tell people is try to think of first off, if you could only sell a product to one person, who would that one person be?

Once you figure that out, design your entire site  and entire user experience around that on a bigger picture.

You might want to think of if you had to create a tribe, which is my point number two. 

#2. Build a tribe

If you had to create a tribe of people that love your brand so much that they are like primal.

I mean, it’s almost in their DNA.

They love it so much, who would those people be?

Listen, when you are starting an online store in Kenya, think about that.

Think about how you can create a tribe of people.

Here is a secret!

Part of creating a tribe of people is creating pole polarization.

For example;

If everybody feels ok about a product that is not good.

You want some people to love it.

At the same time, you honestly want some people to hate it.

#3. What makes you unique?

You need to be unique.

I mean, what makes your eCommerce company unique?

And if you cannot answer that very basic question, don’t even start an online store in Kenya.

You need to think.

Go back to the drawing board and think about what makes your business special.

Ask yourself, why would someone want to buy from you?

Luckily, this could be something as simple as your personality.

Or, it could be that people like to buy from you because you have a YouTube channel where you talk about natural hair products for instance and you are the natural hair expert.

If that is the case, of course they are gonna come to you.

Bonus #4. Don’t cheap out

I understand, it is very very hard to start any kind of business in Kenya without any money.

Honestly, I don’t care what you read online, you need money to start any serious business.
